Courses & EventsLADIES FLY FISHING EVENTS
In May and July we held one day introduction courses to fly fishing especially for ladies. Subject to enough take up we are hoping to run another course in September and this is suitable to any ladies who have never fly fished but would like to try in the company of other ladies. The venue has easy access to Junction 38 of the M6 motorway.. Basically the day will start at 10.00am with a welcome and coffee or tea when you will be given an overview of the days events . There will be a break for lunch and the day finishes at 3.00pm. Hopefully after this session you will have the skills and confidence to go fly fishing and be sucessfull on your own. The number of places will be limited to a maximum of 8 persons to ensure that everyone gets full benefit and two qualified instructors (Bob and Vera Carlson) will be on hand . The intention is that the day should be good fun and following a short safety briefing you will be shown the equipment and how it works. Casting and working the flies to hopefully entice the Trout will be covered along with a little entomology (bug hunting). Don`t worry there`s no creepy crawlies to handle and all the flies used are artificial. There is a good chance that you will hook a fish and hopefully land it. All equipment is provided . All you need are wellies or waterproof boots and outdoor clothing in case the weather turns damp plus a hat or cap, sunglasses and a good sense of humour. The cost for the day is £50 This is an ideal opportunity to improve your fly fishing skills in the company of other like minded ladies. CASTING FAULTS AND FIXES
On Friday 21 May 2010 ,as part of the Cumbria Fishing Festival , we held another highly succesful fly casting faults and fixes evening. This event was aimed at fly fishers with a little experience who wanted to improve their casting. All the main casts were demonstrated along with the main faults that anglers make attempting the casts. We are considering running a similar event in Summer and it will be a 4 hour session on a Saturday or Sunday. This will be a hands on event and after showing the casts, faults and fixes there will be plenty of time for individual instruction to eliminate any problems or perhaps to learn new casts. If you suffer from tailing loops (wind knots), lack of distance, catch the bushes or banks on the back cast, crack flies off, send your casts around corners instead of straight ahead, roll cast but it goes nowhere, throw the last forward cast hard only to get nowhere etc etc then this good fun informal sessioncould be for you. The venue has yet to be decided but it will have good access to the M6 motorway. Costs will depend on the venue used but will be very good value. If you are interested in attending the session to improve your casting then please e mail Bob or Vera on bobcarlson@kencomp.net or phone on 07886 817770 before 9.00pm.
