Thailand Fishing for Massive Giant Mekong Catfish, Royal Siamese Carp and numerous other exotic fish many of which exceed current World Records

BANGKOK

If you want to have a mind blowing fishing experience for fish of truly gigantic proportions we can arrange it with Jean Francois Helias who without doubt is the best angling guide in Asia and he and his Clients hold a vast number of World Records.

You can combine a day or two fishing with a family holiday in Thailand or have a serious fishing trip. For the more casual angler wanting to catch some of the biggest freshwater fish in the world then this can be done at Bung Sam Lan lake in the outskirts of Bangkok.

For the more adventurous we can fix you up with true jungle fishing for Giant Snakehead, river fishing for giant freshwater stingray of massive sizes or perhaps trying for barramundi in brackish water in addition to trying for Giant Mekong catfish, Giant Siamese Carp, Arapaima, Pacu etc etc etc. Several of my Clients have broken World Records whilst fishing with Francois and my wife Vee recently caught the largest (equal) Giant Mekong Catfish taken by a lady angler.

Thailand is an extremely safe destination to visit for fresh water fishing and you can combine world class inexpensive shopping, superb food, friendly natives etc with some of the best freshwater fishing available anywhere in the world. Francois guarantees that you will catch fish and undoubtedly many will be truly huge. If you have ever wondered how you can get aching muscles from catching fresh water fish give it a try and you will find out as you WILL CATCH big fish.

The most popular fishing choice is a day or more at Bung Sam Lan lake which has unbelievable fishing having numerous fish species. The lake holds Giant Mekong Catfish up to 150kg, Arapaima (pirarucu) to 200kg, Giant Siamese Carp to over 100kg to name but a few. Fish are guaranteed and a normal catch would be about 30 Catfish in a day with a real chance of landing them to over 50kg.

An example of a day fishing this lake would involve :

  • Round trip transfers from Hotel leaving about 7.15am and returning for about 7.00pm

  • Accommodation on own private fishing bungalow with large fishing pontoon

  • Fully guided assistance by Jean Francois Helias and/or one of his highly experienced guides

  • Fishing Licence/permit for one or two rods

  • All Tackle including rods, baitrunner reels, terminal tackle, bait etc

  • Fruits of the season and drinking water

  • Insurance

My wife and I fish often with Francois and most Clients return time and again to sample the truly unbelievable fishing. Amongst his regular Clients are many of the UKs better know specialist anglers. The fishing in 2006 has set off very well and we fished in January and had Giant Mekong catfish of 42kg and 45kg in one day. In August a Giant mekong Catfish of 180lbs was released and the same anglers released a Giant Siamese Carp of 110lb the next day and a Giant Siamese Carp estimated at 220lbs was lost at the net at the end of July. Now thats world class fishing at its very best. 2007 has started well with some good Catfish and Carp taken.

The actual fishing is awesome and the Giant Mekong Catfish scrap very hard and action tends to end up non stop as the day goes on. You are welcome to use your own tackle but unless the rod is 5lb test curve upwards it will not cope with the bigger fish and could well get smashed. We frequently get broken using 30lb bs mono when attempting to turn or slow fish. The lake has numerous wooden pilings and the skill is in keeping the fish out.

ACCOMMODATION

If you need accommodation Francois can book you into a hotel which is located on Sukhumvit Road in the very heart of Bangkok with night markets, numerous stores, restaurants, bars and nightlife on the doorstep along with the Sky Train. Access to the airport is also very handy with a link straight onto the airport expressway.

Because Francois runs his guiding service as a fully registered service with the Tourist Authority of Thailand he can obtain very preferential rates at hotels for Clients often at about 50% of normal rates and with taxes, gratuities and breakfast included.

FISHING COSTS
Prices for the fishing depend on location, number of anglers, number of rods used etc . We are certain that you will be in need of a relaxing Thai massage at the end of a days fishing to relieve the aches and pains.

If you would like to know more or need costs please complete the Contact Form or e mail Bob at bob@flyfishingtuition.co.uk. If you would like a chat about the fishing then feel free to phone on 07886 817770 or in the evenings up to 9.00pm you can phone 01539 733297.

CHIANG MAI FISHING

There is some extemely good fishing very close to Chiang Mai and there is a very good fishing guide called Suvit Teipakhun who we highly recommend. The fishing is mainly for catfish both the Giant Mekong and the StripedCatfish. In several sessions with Suvit at the end of 2006 my wife and I averaged 25 fish a session with a good number over 20kg with the best two being 26.55 kg and 24.55kg. Suvit has a great sense of humour and a wondrful day is guaranteed and your arms will ache with the power of the fish.
